Mathematical Heroes

A couple of years ago, I was filling in for a teacher for two weeks in February and pulled together a slide for each day to commemorate African American History with a special focus on mathematicians. I also had to include Madame C. J. Walker, whose genius resulted in her becoming a millionaire in the beauty industry. Each slide served as an hors d'ourve so-to-speak, encouraging greater interest in the person of history, in hopes to inspire, to connect, and to nurture the sense of wonder, the spirit of curiosity, and the gift of creativity.

Here are a few of the slides that the students found most interesting.
