Fifty Years Ago

Fifty years ago, the art world changed as Pop Art was introduced to the world. The work of Roy Liechtenstein, Andy Warhol, and several others were put on display in the Norton Simon Museum in Pasadena, California. Among those whose work was selected to be a part of this historic and groundbreaking show was a young artist named Jim Dine. During the summer of 2009, my son and I had the opportunity to see his work at the San Francisco Museum of Art where this picture was taken.

The painting is a great way to capture the spirit of Valentine's Week.

For me, drawing is everything—
because it informs everything.
It even informs my poetry.
It’s the way I begin everything.
–Jim Dine
